Business License Information
Welcome to Corona! We are a progressive City, which offers both its citizens and businesses an opportunity to thrive in an environment of well-managed City services.
Who Needs a Business License Certificate?
Any individual, corporation, partnership, or sole proprietor who wishes to conduct a business within the City of Corona must secure a business license certificate. The Corona Municipal Code (CMC) states; "It is unlawful for any person to transact, perform, engage in and carry on any business, trade, profession, calling, or occupation in the city without first having procured a business license..." (CMC Section 5.02.030)
The City of Corona Municipal Code requires that all businesses pay for a business license certificate, but such payment does not authorize an applicant to do business in the City. All businesses must comply with all city codes and must have Community Development Department's approval before opening. A separate license certificate is required for each branch or location of the business.
*All businesses that are exempt must register with the Business License Division and provide proof of exemption. Please check with the Business License Division at (951) 736-2275 for any other exemptions that may apply.
Information concerning business licenses, transferability of a business license certificate, obtaining a duplicate license certificate and conducting a business at separate locations, or separate businesses at a single location, and any other business license questions may be addressed to the Business License Division by calling (951) 736-2275.
How does a new business apply for a Business License?
For your convenience, a business license may be paid the following ways:
Forms are available at the Business License Division, 400 South Vicentia Avenue, first floor public counter, Corona, CA 92882, or by calling (951) 736-2275. Business License Forms and Applications including payment schedules, are also available here.
The Business License payment is calculated based on a flat rate or a percentage of your annual gross receipts. Supplemental forms for determination of gross receipts must be filled out to calculate the proper amount.
Complete the proper forms and return to the Business License Division office along with the proper payment, if applying by mail or in person.
You will need to have information relating to your business's annual gross receipts, emergency contacts, and pertinent Federal and State ID numbers.
After payment has been received and all required information has been obtained, you will be mailed a Business License Certificate in 2-3 weeks. This certificate must be posted at your place of business.
Business License payments are due each year and must be paid within fifteen days of the next month end following the certificate expiration date. This date is indicated on the current Business License Certificate.
Resale Numbers (Sellers Permits)
A Sellers Permit must be obtained from the State Board of Equalization (SBE) for those businesses of a resale nature. If your business already has a permit, make sure that the Corona location is added as a subdivision with the State Board of Equalization. This will ensure that the City of Corona receives the proper sales tax apportionment. The SBE may be reached at (951) 680-6400. You may also obtain SBE contact information by clicking here.
